First, here is the size guide listed on the packaging:

S: Ages 3-5, Height 100–120cm/3'3"–3'10"
M: Ages 6-9, Height 120–140cm/3'11"–4'6"
L: Ages 10-13, Height 140–160cm/4'7"–5'2"
XL: Ages 14-17, Height 160–175cm/5'3"–5'9"

The sizing chart is not realistic based on the actual size of this product. I ordered a Small for my 3.5 year-old son, who is below-average in weight and a little below the 50th percentile in height at 3'3". The height of the shin guards is admittedly perfect for him, but the strap that goes around his calf seems too tight. Although I can close it, he immediately complains that it is uncomfortable. Given how small he is for his age, I expect some of his larger peers would not be able to use the calf strap at all.

Oddly, the stretchy strap around the foot is very loose and seems made for a much larger foot.

We can get some use out of this given his small size, but I can't imagine that the shin guards will continue to offer enough coverage as he moves from 3'3" all the way to 3'10". If your young child is taller and larger, I don't recommend starting with the small.

I love these shin guards for my 4 year old, but I have found better fitting ones from Target. I think the soft foam material helps to prevent rash as there is less rubbing. The shin guard itself fits my son's leg just right (but there's a gotcha). According to the size chart he is size small. When I ordered these in the small size and I had to return them. The small was itsy bitsy and would have worked for ages 1-2 years. Who plays soccer at that age!?! So this time I ordered the large, which is supposed to be for an 8-10 year old. The large is the correct size for the shin guard portion, but the ankle pads and strap are slightly loose and the straps are about an inche too long. It's not a perfect fit going up in size, but it works. Manufacturer's do need to get their youth shin guards sizing system figured out. Not enough attention is given to U5 players and trying to get the fit correct. I have found that U5 players do not like the feeling of the sweat on their skin under the shin guards. They also may get a rash if it doesn't fit right. An easy fix to this is to buy a pair of longer socks and tuck them down over the top of the shin guards as much as you can (about 3-4 inches). No more complaining or pain. The shin guards should not come up to the middle of the child's shin. That only protects half of the shin. They should come up with enough space to place 2-3 finger width from the bottom of the knee cap.

These are great shin guards especially at the "add on price"... The sizing is off. The extra large fits my 10 year old boy who is about 56-58" and would probably be too small for anyone bigger. The large fits my 8-9 year old girls who are about the 48" - 52"... Hope this helps.

Ridiculously small. My 10 year old is 4 foot 5, so I ordered the Large size, and they are comically tiny. They are too small for my 3 year old. And Amazon says I have to pay $6.75 in shipping to return them, so I guess we will keep them. Maybe the cat wants to take up soccer.

These are fantastic shinguards. My children have used them for years and really enjoyed them. They're comfortable and they protect them from bruises. However when we went to re-order the shinguards, the label on the old one had rubbed off and we had to use the Adidas sizing chart to find the correct size. We use the chart that was provided by the seller, and according to Adidas, a child who is 3'11"-4'6" uses a size medium. My child is 3'11" which would place her in the medium category. However when we put them on her shins they barely covered half of her leg. When we went to re-order a size large we discovered that the product is not returnable and not exchangeable, even though we used to provide a sizing chart.

If you are ordering shinguards for your child, you may want to size up. Also consider spending a few more dollars to order them through prime, which should allow you to return the item if the website description was in accurate. Once we had the size large, they fit perfectly and my kids love them.

These shinguards are comfortable, wrap under the foot, have a padded area to cover the anklebone and a strap to secure them to the upper part of your calf. These are not as bulky and wide as some shinguards are, yet still protect very well. Just be careful when selecting the size and check the sellers return policy!!

I saw all the reviews about the sizes running small but noticed some seemed to not take into mind that these are TODDLER sizes.
EVEN IF YOU ARE ORDERING FOR TODDLERS, BEWARE...
We have a 3 year-old so I figured we were safe with the SMALL (age 2-4) as all the measurements fit him. The length of the shin guards is fine...however the elastic strap is VERY tight on his legs. He has skinny legs (he is about 50% for weight and height) and there is no reason they should fit so tight.

We are using them anyway, and just letting the socks hold them up for now since we had already let him play in them a few times before we decided they were indeed painfully tight on him.

We ordered these in Medium, Large, and Extra large.
Having 3 young boys... I'd recommend the following sizing:
The Medium fits a 2-3 year old.
The Large fits a 5-6 year old.
The Extra Large fits a 7-8 year old.
They are made with a soft neoprene? lining, with a hard shell.

I see a few review that complain that these are smaller than some of the competitors, but to me they are just right. They protect the area from just above the ankle on up to about 3/4 of the way up the boys legs.

I think these were made for a doll, not an actual human being. Please check other reviews as I failed to before purchasing as I was blindsided by cheap price and Prime shipping. Amazon does not sell this product so you cannot return through Amazon. I purchased an Adidas Youth Medium in this product and subsequently purchased a Vizari Youth Small and the Vizari are almost twice the length. These Adidas would not even fit over her shin as they were curved too much. If your baby plays soccer, these will be great for you.

The sizing on these is WAY OFF. My daughter is an average size 4.5 year old and the shin guards that arrived are literally for a cabbage patch doll. They're TINY! I have no idea what size to order as these are so small I figure I would have to go up to XL and then it might be too big. Very disappointed.

I went one size up on these because of reviews. Fits great! My son wears them twice a week and they are comfortable for him. Hasn't complained once. They stay up and on great. If you have a child with bigger calves im not sure. My son is a skinny boy.

Ordered based on measurements with extra room just in case. The Large is supposed to fit a child from 4'7" to 5'2". It only goes up half of her shin. The length barely fits my 3 year old.
Very disappointed.

Poor sizing, or very short design. Bought the XL and they seem small even for my 5yo.
